ACEN D022 Essentials of Biomedical Informatics is an online class for medical students at the Medical College of Wisconsin, inspired by my professional interests. In the spirit of open science, and with the ambition to reach a wider audience, I will share my course content in this space, starting on 1/3/2023, under a Creative Commons license (BY-SA).

This course is designed to provide the student with an overview of biomedical informatics (BMI), an interdisciplinary field that studies and pursues the effective uses of biomedical data, information, and knowledge for scientific inquiry, problem solving, and decision making, driven by efforts to improve human health. The course provides a concise review of BMI, including basic computer science applied to BMI, electronic health records, data standards and interoperability, clinical decision support, data science, telemedicine, and public health informatics, especially in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The course is designed to be completed in 12 weeks.
